What We Will Not Do
We won't quote a spring replacement or a full door swap over the phone without knowing what's actually on your house. A lot of homes in the 22 neighborhoods we work across - Burns Park, Old West Side, Northside, Wines, Haisley, and the rest - were built between 1957 and 1999, with a lot of that stock going up in the 1960s and 70s. That range covers three or four generations of door hardware, torsion setups, and track widths, and a price that ignores that isn't a real price.
We also won't sell you a full opener replacement when the fix is a $20 sensor or a misaligned bracket. If your door is doing something specific - grinding, drifting off track, refusing to close all the way - we'd rather diagnose it in person than guess and pad the estimate to cover ourselves.
What we won't do is promise a same-day fix before we've heard what's wrong. Depending on the part and what's already on the truck, some jobs need a day or two for parts to come in. We'll tell you that up front instead of overselling the timeline.

What We Are Called Out For
Broken torsion springs are the most common call, especially on doors original to houses built in the 1960s and 70s - that hardware has had decades to fatigue, and once a spring goes, the door won't lift safely on its own. Cold-weather stiffening is close behind: this area sits in a severe cold climate band, and low temperatures thicken old grease on rollers and tracks, which makes openers strain and sometimes burn out.
We also get called for cables that have frayed or jumped their drum, panels dented from a car bumper or a bad windstorm, and openers that run but won't fully engage the door - often a sensor knocked out of alignment. Track misalignment shows up a lot in the older housing stock, where sectional doors have been rehung or adjusted over the years without the track ever being reset square.
What we can't do from a description alone is tell you whether a repair is worth it versus replacement. A 20-year-old door with a cracked panel and a tired spring might be cheaper to replace outright than to keep patching, and we'll say so instead of running up a repair bill on a door that's on its way out anyway.
